A criminal case comes here when the FIR was registered at a police station in that district; a property suit comes here when the property lies within it and the suit is valued within the district courts' limit. Will a property suit about land in Dwarka or Najafgarh be heard at Dwarka Court?
Usually yes: a suit about immovable property is filed where the property is situated, under Section 16 of the Code of Civil Procedure, so property in the South West district goes to Dwarka. The exception is value. Delhi's district courts hear suits valued up to ₹2 crore; above that, the suit is filed on the original side of the Delhi High Court, and commercial disputes go to the designated commercial courts. The valuation of the suit therefore decides the forum, and we check it, along with the title papers, before anything is filed.
